First warning forecast | Fairly calm seasonal weather this week

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Since the start of the new year, some pretty powerful weather systems have tracked across the country, bringing widespread rain, snow and even ice. Fortunately, the active weather model is taking a much-needed break this week as only light systems move across the country. This includes locally where only a chance of light and scattered precipitation is expected this weekend. Other than that, plenty of dry weather is forecast for the next few days with near seasonal temperatures in the morning and afternoon. This means that the freeze-thaw cycle is well in place and can lead to new potholes forming in the roads, as well as possible rock or mud slides.

Any lingering showers wane on Saturday evening and clouds continue to break off from south to north. Temperatures drop to the upper teens at midnight.

As Saturday evening becomes clear with a calm wind, very cold temperatures set in, dropping to 10 degrees. Some single-digit numbers are likely in rural areas.

Sunday sees abundant sunshine with afternoon temperatures reaching the mid-40s.

Expect partly cloudy skies Monday and Tuesday. While Monday afternoon sees temperatures in the mid 40s, Tuesday will remain closer to the low 40s.

Wednesday and Thursday will remain partly cloudy with high temperatures in the mid to high 40s. A light scattered mix of rain and snow is possible on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Friday becomes mostly cloudy with afternoon temperatures in the mid 40s. A light rain/snow mix is possible early in the day.

Saturday usually turns sunny and milder with afternoon temperatures approaching 50 degrees.
