What a dynamic storm it has been across the state! We have witnessed a radical change of seasons since Saturday! The 24-hour temperatures dropped 30-35° in some places to the east, giving us mid-November to late November weather. Our daytime highs actually occurred shortly after midnight. We have been slowly dropping throughout the day as the sharp cold front continues to move across the state. Our other big story was the incredible gusts of wind. Maximum gusts exceeded 55 to 60 mph for parts of the metro in the late morning. We are still windy pretty much across the state with gusts gradually easing later in the evening. All wind advisories have expired. Our multi-faceted storm is also bringing higher rainfall totals with Clovis capturing 1.50″ and other areas of central NM closing in a 1″. But now widespread rain is returning to southern NM where local heavy rain is expected overnight. Alamogordo and Las Cruces experienced stronger to severe thunderstorms earlier in the evening with hail.
Our active weather pattern continues overnight into Monday morning as our outage low gradually drifts towards our state. Roswell will see the heavy rains arrive during the morning hours. So Monday will be quite similar to Sunday, but much less wind and storm activity. High temperatures will still be quite cold with numbers in the mid 50s for metro ABQ, lower 50s for Santa Fe and upper 50s for the Roswell area. We will finally break out of this abnormally cool and rainy pattern on Tuesday. After a very cold start to the day, sunshine and warmer temperatures will return with highs in the lower 70s for Albuquerque/Rio Rancho.
