BELLEVILLE, Ill. — Despite the winter blast, Illinoisans ventured out Wednesday night for last-minute groceries, gas and winter gear.
The latest storm brought sleet and snow to Illinois, with freezing rain pouring in from Belleville to Waterloo.
This means lots of people plow the roads and salt the sidewalks. Many in Cahokia Heights made sure to pack gas and winter gear.
Fast food restaurants also saw lines snaking around the block as customers grabbed dinner.
Others flocked to stores to stock up on essentials, bracing for another flurry of wintry weather.
“I have toilet paper, toothbrushes, paper plates, an electric razor, toilet paper, as you can see,” buyer Adam Thomas Hubbs said. “All the staples because I’m not coming back.”
“My kids and I are just going to sit and have fun, I’m here to shop and buy food,” said fellow customer Michael Nance. “We’re going to try melting chocolate for Strawberries in Chocolate and Strawberries in Carmel.”
Whether in the store or on the road, there is one thing everyone agrees on. They are tired of the ups and downs and ready for spring.
A man told me that he had tried to get salt from a nearby hardware store and it was out. He hopes to have better luck tomorrow.
