A risk of thunderstorms is expected in the area Monday evening through Wednesday morning. The Storm Prediction Center says there is an outside risk of a severe storm on Tuesday.
SPC says storms could develop in the eastern half of Kansas by late afternoon and move into Missouri. Storms can bring hail and lightly high winds up to 60 mph.
Residents who want or need rain, given the worsening drought across the region, may well be disappointed. The National Weather Service expects widespread rain totals of around 0.25 inches. Higher single amounts are possible. These types of rainfall amounts will likely have little to no positive impact on the current drought, which ranges from moderate to extreme from north to south in the KVOE listening area. Rainfall amounts after Tuesday afternoon will also arrive too late to affect Thursday’s weekly update from the US Drought Monitor.
