UK weather: the latest Met Office forecast
Flood alerts have been issued as Britain braces for two storms this week, bringing heavy rain, high winds and a risk of snow.
Weather officials have put in place 11 flood warnings that could affect people in several parts of the country.
Residents are warned to prepare for the possibility of flooding in areas covered by the alerts.
Storm Dudley is expected to hit northern UK on Wednesday and Thursday before Storm Eunice lands on Friday.
Orange and yellow wind warnings are in place for the north of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland from 3pm Wednesday until 9am Thursday.
A yellow warning will also cover the southern part of Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland on Friday until 9 p.m.
Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan said: ‘The whole week is going to see quite a disturbed weather pattern developing across the UK.
He said western parts of Scotland would “bear the brunt” of the strongest winds which could cause “widespread disruption”.
Strong winds from Storm Dudley threaten lives
Storm Dudley’s 90mph winds are life threatening on Wednesday, forecasters have warned.
The Met Office has issued an amber warning for ‘strong and disruptive winds’ which can lead to a ‘good chance’ of power cuts and disruption to transport services.
Forecasters warned that a “hazard to life is likely from large waves and beach material thrown onto coastal roads, beachfronts and properties”.
The warning is in place from 4pm to midnight and covers much of the central UK, including areas north of Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire and south of Perthshire in Scotland, says:
Residents of this area can also expect heavy showers throughout the afternoon and snow on higher ground, the Met Office said.

Train services canceled across Scotland
Train services across Scotland will end at 4pm on Wednesday as the country prepares before being hit by the first of two storms.

“We expect another period of disruption this week, with storms Dudley and Eunice expected to bring strong winds to Scotland,” he said.

The 300ft turbine worth £20million broke and crashed into the valley below on Monday near Bridgend.

In a daily forecast video from the Met Office, meteorologist Alex Deakin warned people in affected areas to prepare for ‘heavy rain and ever stronger winds’.
“It will be a windy day throughout the day with these winds continuing to pick up throughout the afternoon and evening,” he said.
“There will be snow on the hills across Scotland, but it is the rain and more particularly the wind that we are concerned about in this storm system on Wednesday.
