Dry, autumnal weather on Saturday gives way to warmer and possibly wetter conditions on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures on Saturday could reach 70 degrees with winds of up to 21 mph, forecasters say. Winds will ease on Saturday evening as the thermometer drops to the mid-50s, forecasters said.
Sunday begins with a slight chance of showers which, after 2 p.m., become more likely and could even bring thunderstorms, forecasters said. The day will peak in the mid-70s.
The thunderstorm prospect diminishes a bit after 8 p.m. Sunday, but is still there, forecasters said. Winds could reach 15 mph and rainfall amounts are expected to be between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, according to the weather service.
A high surf advisory is in effect until 11 a.m. Saturday for Atlantic Ocean beaches, and there is a high risk of rip currents through Sunday evening, the weather service said.
“Large breaking waves” of four to eight feet are possible, the weather service said.
The sun will break through at the start of the work week on Monday, with temperatures again reaching the mid-70s. Winds could reach 18 mph, forecasters say. Monday night will be mostly clear with lows around 58 degrees.
It’s time to break out the sweaters.
Tuesday will be mostly sunny with highs near 74 degrees, dropping in the evening to 55 degrees, forecasters said.
Wednesday will continue to be “sweater weather”, with sunny skies and highs in the 70s, forecasters said. People may want to remove the covers from their air conditioner, as nighttime temperatures will drop into the mid-50s.
Fall will tighten its grip on Long Island on Thursday, with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the upper 60s, and evening lows falling into the mid-50s, forecasters said.
The work week will end with a mostly sunny day, with highs in the upper 60s on Friday, forecasters said.
