Winter weather advisory issued for Delaware Valley as snow may affect Thursday morning commute – CBS Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A winter weather advisory is in effect for Philadelphia, surrounding suburbs and northern Delaware from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, and for Upper Bucks, northwestern Montgomery and Berks counties and the Lehigh Valley from 3 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The region is unlikely to experience much sleet or freezing rain as temperatures are expected to drop quickly. The type of precipitation will be snow in greater Philadelphia around 6 or 7 a.m. Thursday. Consistent snow will fall for the duration of the morning rush, and snow can be heavy at times.

Winter weather ends for the most part by noon Thursday, but snow can linger on the shore until the early hours of the afternoon.

Snowfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are likely for much of the region with lower totals expected for the Poconos and immediate New Jersey coastline.

The maximum will likely occur at midnight and temperatures will drop into the 20s by mid to late morning Thursday.

Thus, the snow will stick and remain on the untreated surfaces. Expect reduced visibility, slippery roads, driveways and sidewalks for much of the morning.

Thursday evening’s ride will be dry, but with temperatures continuing to drop, any accumulated snowfall will freeze to create potentially frigid conditions.

Prepare for extreme cold settling in during the evening hours with wind chills dropping into the single digits at 10 p.m.
